Oftentimes, I don’t know where to start when I want to check out a new musical or cast recording. In this case, I just asked the composer!
Rob Rokicki is having quite a moment right now: his Broadway debut with YesBroadway favorite The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical and his Monstersongs is back with a Halloween-time concert at 54 Below on October 29.
Rob developed Monstersongs in conjunction with award-winning illustrator David O’Neill as a hybrid immersive rock musical & graphic novel. It’s is a unique theatrical event that puts audiences in a synthesized world of graphic novels, rock musicals and live performance. A portal into the psyches of often misunderstood creatures; Monstersongs flips the switch on the monster narrative, inviting audiences to explore the humanity that binds us all.

“Say Goodbye” - For all you Lightning Thief fans that wanted Medusa to have her moment- this is for you! Sung by one of the greatest rock vocalists, Katrina Rose Dideriksen (The Voice), it packs an emotional gut-punch.
“Down and Under” – Jelani Alladin (who just gave a heroic portrayal of Hercules) delivers a devastating and soulful performance as a heartbroken Troll under the bridge.
“Blood & Brains” - Lauren Marcus (Be More Chill) & Molly Hager (Waitress) play a Vampire and a Zombie that share the love of a boy - an all-consuming love – in this 60’s girl-group inspired number.
“Right Through You” – The formidable talents of Megan Hilty (Smash) shine in this song with a dark pop groove as a Ghost looking to be noticed. My favorite section is the thrilling ending that really rocks.
“Footprints” - This song celebrates my friendship with Be More Chill’s Joe Iconis. We wrote this song together about a Yeti and a Sasquatch that find they’re not alone anymore. It’s got a fun alt-country flair.
