Lynda Blackmon Lowery was the youngest person on the march to Selma in 1965. Turning 15 On The Road To Freedom is an inspirational solo play directed by Ally Sheedy that tells her story, hypothesizing that the Civil Rights Movement was, indeed, a kid's movement! Damaras Obi, who plays Lynda, is a powerful performer who nails the role and masterfully commanded the room of 400 pre-teens at the performance we saw. This delightfully accessible show is great for kids, but also electrifying enough to keep the attention of adults as well.

Even cooler? The show is performances at the Center at West Park, which is in the West Park Presbyterian Church on the Upper West Side and is a building with a long history of promoting civil rights, including being a stop on the Underground Railroad!
