Trainspotting Live is an immersive theatrical production of the classic cult novel/film about heroin addicts in Scotland in the 80s.
5 Reasons You Need To See This Immediately:
1 - It’s immersive. To see this show, you enter a graffiti-covered Times Square heroin den that immediately makes you feel uncomfortable upon entering it. The bathrooms are gross, the bar is dive AF, and the whole place screams “punk”. It feels dangerous and...sexy. The show takes place all around you (even though you’re seated the whole time) and the actors are extremely close to all audience members. It is important to note that you WILL get dirty. Take this warning from the ticket confirmation email seriously:
This show contains NUDITY, SPLATTER, ADULT THEMES, HAZE, VIOLENCE, VERY STRONG LANGUAGE, LOUD RAVE MUSIC, UNBRIDLED ENTHUSIASM, STROBE EFFECTS, THICK SCOTTISH ACCENTS, LASERS, HEAVY DRUG/NEEDLE USE, DEPICTIONS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, 4TH WALL DEMOLITION, IMMIGRANT ACTORS and the WORST TOILET IN MIDTOWN.
2 - The music. You take your seats for the show by penetrating a loud rave with euro electronic music blasting all around you and your heart won’t stop racing from that moment until you spill back out onto Eighth Avenue a changed person 90 minutes later. This is thanks, in part, to some of the awesome 80s and 90s hits that are played (and loudly!) during the show. It's nostalgia mania!

3 - The acting. Omg, it’s so intense. You simply cannot imagine that these are actors who live a normal life. Because they’re so close to you, you’re not allowed to be a passive audience member…the way all theater should be. This is the very definition of “in your face” acting. And these actors are GOOD. Their vibe matches the gritty themes of the show perfectly.
4 - The story. There’s a reason this is a cult classic novel and movie. Because the show forces you to go deep inside the mind of a heroin junkie, a lady (who definitely seemed like a prim and proper tourist who almost accidentally found herself there) almost didn’t make it through the performance the night we saw it. In fact, Irvine Welsh (who wrote the novel), saw the London production and notoriously said “I was shocked, and I wrote the f&*%ing thing!” This is definitely a show you want to get a drink before…slash during…and probably even after!
5 - You can get tickets for under $30 on Goldstar! That means you don’t have to worry if you’re getting the best price to experience that "Worst Toilet in Scotland" scene IRL.
