The Irish Rep staged their immersive The Dead, 1904 the past two years to such enormous success that they had to bring it back again this year. Lucky for us, because we’ve got a new NYC Christmas tradition! It's full-sensory experience and it’s really awesome.
The show takes place in a converted mansion on 5th Avenue that is now the Irish American Historical Society, but for this performance we get to pretend it’s the house where the characters in James Joyce’s The Dead, 1904 have their Christmas dinner…and we get to join them for the traditional Irish Christmas dinner and everything!
The action of the play takes place around the mansion as audience members wander around and follow it, making you truly feel like one of the guests as this chaotic dinner. The ambiance is so old-timey it’s hard to imagine what a cellphone accidentally going off would sound like. Old maids break out violins and opera songs, a really drunk guest in a festive suit appears (a sensational James Russell last year, but confident this year’s actor will be equally as good), and tensions rise as these characters remember those no longer with us on this holiday night. Little House On The Prairie's Melissa Gilbert also stars.

As for the food: it’s insanely good. Like, so good that it might even be one of the top 10 meals you’ve ever had in your life, but fair warning: the tickets are $300/each...and hard to come by because the show is such a hit. You’ll walk out feeling like a billionaire...in 1904 Dublin!
Note: You can also try for lottery tickets for $19.04 (get it?) via the app TodayTix.
Runs through November 17 through January 13.
