Mlima's Tale is Sweat playwright Lynn Nottage's new play at The Public Theater that goes deep inside the world of the black market for elephant tusks in Kenya. As to be expected from one of the world's most impressive theater companies, The Public delivers with just about every show they put up. Mlima's Tale is no exception. The writing, acting, direction, and production values are all about as good as it gets. And, ahem...Lynn Nottage has two Pulitzers, after all.

Original Fela! star Sahr Ngaujah plays grand ol' Mlima himself. Three other actors play multiple roles, and watching them feels like taking a master class in acting. Bonus: enchanting live music is performed by Justin Hicks adding an element to the storytelling that will literally make your heart race.

Mlima's Tale may appear simple on its surface, but it will haunt you long after the 80 minutes you spend with it at The Public. Don't miss it!

Runs through June 3.
