The Amateurs is a brave new play at the Vineyard Theatre (which is by Union Square). Playwright Jordan Harrison gives us an epic, meta, well-acted play with a brilliant middle half that will leave you with your jaw on the floor. No spoiler alerts, but know that Michael Cyril Creighton (who you might recognize from television's High Maintenance) has a career defining moment. 20 minutes worth of career-defining performance! The play takes us on a journey with Medieval actors as they try to outrun the Black Death and...ok fine, for real, no spoilers!
Also, watching the enchanting Quincy Tyler Bernstine (you've probably seen her on tv) perform live on stage feels like you are witnessing history being made. She's just, quite simply, that good of an actress. The expression "nuanced performance" takes on a whole new meaning when she's around.

Fun bonus: Production values are very cool in this show. It feels like a game of Settlers of Catan come to life!
Jordan Harrison has a second Off-Broadway premiere coming up this summer at Playwrights Horizons and, after seeing The Amateurs, you'll be 100% in for that one as well.
Runs through March 29.
For starters, Jeff Goldblum was in it…
