Playwright Lowell Byers met his cousin, who is a WWII vet, for the first time in 2009 and decided that his important story needed to be heard and so he wrote Luft Gangster. Lowell himself plays his cousin, who is captured by Nazi soldiers and sent to a concentration camp...and only narrowly escapes. Lowell's real-life father plays the Nazi captain who captures him, so this show is truly a family affair. This adds to the authenticity of this genuine tribute Lowell gives to his cousin.

An ensemble of 8 other actors are also top-notch. Throw in legendary and masterful director Austin Pendleton and a very sleek downtown theater space and you've got a recipe for a wonderful night at the theater.

Runs through April 30.
